COLLEGE GOAL SUNDAY NOV 5

 

LOSFA is hosting a College Goal Sunday event that will be held November 5, 2017 at 14 different locations around the state. This event helps parents and graduating high school seniors complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the required application for most federal, state and institutional financial aid as well as a graduation requirement for public high school student who graduate with the graduating class of 2018. Filling out this single application gets you considered for the TOPS scholarship program, the Louisiana Go Grant, the federal Pell Grant, student work study programs, low interest federal student loans, and many campus-based scholarship and grant programs.

 

Financial Aid professionals from each postsecondary institutions will be on hand to offer free assistance with completing the FAFSA. Students/parents can register for the event at: https://www.osfa.la.gov/register. Registration is encouraged, but not required to attend the event.

 

Doors will open at 1:30 and the program will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m.  See attached flyer for location.

Just an FYI --- The early bird scholarship deadline for the fall 2018 semester at Northwestern State University is October 31st. The University’s priority scholarship deadline is December 1st and the second priority deadline is March 1st.

College and Career Night will be held at the Bossier Civic Center on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 5:30-7:30.  All Bossier Parish Juniors and Seniors are invited.  Over 70 colleges, universities, vocational schools, and all branches of the Armed Forces will be available to meet with students and parents.  Please plan to attend!

The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Aid (LOSFA) offers a site in which you plug in your interests and their 5 point match will give you areas of study that are based off of your interests.  It also suggests schools that would best fit your interests and ways to pay for college.  Go to unlockmyfuture.org to check it out!

It's Time To Fill Out Your FAFSA!

You may begin filling out your FAFSA on October 1st!   The federal government uses this form to determine your eligibility for federal financial aid for college, which may include grants, scholarships, work-study and loans.  It is very important that you do this ASAP in order to maximize you federal aid!

Signal Vine Text message reminders

The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) provides text messages to convey critical college access information to high school seniors. High school seniors who elect to receive text messages will receive reminders of ACT/SAT testing registration deadlines, college application preparation assistance, Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion assistance, financial aid/college access information and reminders of fee payment deadlines for college applications, housing applications and orientation applications.

 

Interested seniors can opt-in to the Signal Vine text messaging platform by emailing their name, high school name and cell phone number to LOSFA.SignalVine@la.gov
