Mrs. Dowden

It is exciting to welcome a new school year. This year, I am teaching both English I and English IV. As always, I am excited at the prospect of welcoming new students into my classes. English I is a transition for 9th graders from middle school English and Reading classes, to High School English. We try to make it enjoyable, while at the same time preparing them for the level of Literature and Writing that they will do in the later English classes. English IV is continuing, this year, to incorporate both British Literature and Senior Project. It is amazing to see what all of the senior project students accomplish throughout the semester. We are looking forward to seeing the students excel to new heights in English this year as we continue to implement new programs and curriculum. As always, our focus continues to be on the students, making sure that they are prepared to meet the challenges of life after high school.

I am a  graduate of both Louisiana College where I received a bachelor's degree in Journalism, and Northwestern State University, where I received my master's degree in education. I have been teaching high school English for 20 years, and this year, for the first time, will also be the parent of a high school student. My oldest son, Benjamin, will be starting 9th grade at Haughton High! My family includes my husband of 21 years,our three wonderful boys, who are currently attending three different schools in Haughton, and five cats. In addition to Benjamin, Samuel will be starting middle school this year in the 6th grade, and Joshua is moving to the 3rd grade at Platt Elementary. As always, our lives are busy, and revolve around the school year, but we wouldn't have it any other way!
