High School Accountability Coach

The mission of the high school accountability coach is to ensure the successful transition of all students from middle to high school and from high school into some form of post-secondary education or work.  The accountability coach works closely with an intervention team to design and provide a comprehensive prevention/intervention program for students at-risk of grade retention and/or dropping out.  The accountability coach works to identify students in need of additional support and work with them to achieve academic success.  The accountability coach works to ensure all identified students receive the resources/services they need to be guided toward a path of graduation. The role of the accountability coach also includes maintaining the components of the school accountability system to ensure the school's performance score reflects the school's continued performance toward student success.

why should you strive to earn your high school diploma?

  • According to, one of the important effects of having a high school diploma is "A high school diploma shows the employer that you do have an educational background and other skills, such as problem solving, that you've obtained through your classes." A diploma can determine the kinds of jobs you are qualified for and can be the difference between getting hired or denied employment.

  • Having a high school diploma allows a student to continue his education. While about 97 percent of colleges and 2 year colleges will accept a GED, the high school diploma is looked at more favorably. It's not the paper that matters, but the effort and education it represents.

  • Some students think earning a GED is the same thing as a earning a high school diploma, but it is not. According to, universities might require more work, such as earning additional credits, from a GED holder than from a student with a high school diploma.

  • Consider having to explain why you don't have a diploma to an employer. This can be an awkward conversation to have. To have access to pay raises and upper-level positions, the minimum of a high school diploma is required. Also, if you have children, how can you emphasize or stress the importance of education if you have not achieved the minimum yourself?

  • The high school experience helps to develop social skills. If a student is considering continuing his education, most schools require teacher recommendations along with your diploma. Perhaps one of the greatest testaments of having a high school diploma is it indicates you completed your primary, middle and secondary levels of education. It shows perseverance and follow-though.
