I learned to play chess last year, and not sure what took me so long! I then embarked on teaching my grandson, Aaron. We all love the game and when we get together, the competition begins!

Students Against Destructive Decisions

Tina Ward

Fall 2017 Schedule

I am new to the Haughton High School staff, but I am not new to teaching. I began working in education in the Spring of 1990. My journey began at a small private K-12 Christian academy. They were in need of math tutors, so I volunteered. It was my first real taste of being part of something so big as sharing young people's lives. I went on to get my Bachelor's Degree and Master of Arts degrees from Louisiana Tech while I was working as a private school educator. I took some time off in the middle to home school my children with my oldest son graduating as a homeschool student. He went on to Tech on a full ride ROTC scholarship, with additional support from TOPS and an academic scholarship from TECH. My middle son graduated from Bossier High School, went into the Marines and has since achieved a degree in Accounting. He and his family live in Lexington, KY. My daughter graduated from Shreveport Christian Academy and now holds a Bachelor's Degree in English. My husband and I are both the first generation college graduates in our families. Our committment to education has begun a legacy in our family who can now boast of multiple college graduates. I believe in continual growing and learning whether it be on a personal level or professional level. I am currently certified in High School Math and English. I really hope some day I will be able to work with students/adults who need support to go back and get their High School Diploma.

I have three awesome grandchildren which are certainly at the heart of my universe. None of them live near me which makes me very sad and means we travel a lot! I have lived here in Shreveport, Louisiana since October of 1989 when my husband was transferred to Barksdale. (We came here from Torrejon AB in Spain which was certainly one of the most amazing adventures of my life!)

I am glad to be at Haughton and hope to impact every student who enters my classroom. If you are one of those students, then you will always be one of my students. Never hesitate to ask for help now or in the future. I am available to you.

My son was diagnosed with MS while he was in the Marines. He showed signs his senior year when the first lesion appeared in his brain behind his ear. He suffered through uncontrollable headaches and nausea missing a lot of school that year. He is receiving treatment, but there is yet no cure. MS is an autoimmune disease that affects the body systems as the body itself attacks the myelin sheaths encasing nerves. When those sheaths are damaged, nerves are left exposed. It is painful. I decided to do something, so we raise money for research, and we walk in support.
