Any girls interested in being part of this year's Lady of the Locket pageant may sign up in Mrs. St. Andre's room (Lab 3) during NON class time.

The pageant will be held on Friday, February 1st at Airline High School starting at 7PM.

Area colleges and universities will be visiting HHS on December 14th during lunch shifts for College Day.  Come see LA Tech, ULM, BPCC, NSU, LSUS, and VoTech. The National Guard will also be in attendance to share any information about their branch. Come by the library during your lunch shift and hear what they have to offer!

December 13th the Library will be hosting information regarding the history of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be visiting from the North Pole!

Come during your lunch shift to have some cookies and milk and play Christmas Bingo with Mrs. Claus while learning a little about our holiday man in red.

In addition to hanging out with Mrs. Claus, the library will have a Mitten Tree set up.  You may donate mittens anytime between now and Dec. 13. Mittens will go to help children at Platt Elementary during winter.

Students planning to take Driver's Ed in January MUST get an attendance verification form from Mr. S. Brown in ENGlish building 3, Coach Marston in the H building, or the front office. You cannot get your temporary instruction permit without this document. You cannot take Driver's Ed without the temporary instruction permit. Don't delay!

If you are taking AP Chemistry in the spring, please come by Mrs Weinreber’s room S218 to get a packet or join the google classroom through the invite she sent you.

If you are taking AP Environmental Science in the spring, you need to see Ms. McKay or Mrs. Lecompte before we get out for Christmas break.

Beta members it is not too late to order a Beta T-Shirt.  Turn your order in to Lab 2. Cost is $10.00.

Our HHS winterguard is selling gift cards to Texas Roadhouse.  See Mrs. Lecompte or any winterguard member to purchase one!

Congratulations to the freshmen boys basketball team.  They beat Northwood 45-26.
KJ Allen and DJ Gladney led the team with 11 points each.  The freshmen are now 4-2 on the season.

The winner for the RAK Dress Like An  Elf contest is Mr. Phil McMillian! Be on the look out for Mr. Phil modeling his best elf attire before we get out for Christmas Break!

RAK is selling candy cane grams this week. Candy Cane Grams are $1 and to purchase find a RAK representative or purchase in you first block class Thursday and Friday.

JROTC will have its annual Aerospace Science Drill Competition this afternoon at 4:00 P.M. in the Boys' Gym. Principals, faculty, staff and student body are cordially invited.

Deadline to nominate a teacher or staff person for December awesome anchor is Friday, December 7.

Congratulations to Gavin Roe and Matthew White for being selected to play in the East/West All Star game in Ruston December 15.  Also, congratulations to Coach Brotherton who has been chosen as the head coach for this game along with Coach Gary Smith as defensive coordinator and Coach Harlan as the offensive line coach.  We are proud of you!

Freshman girls basketball team lost to Benton last night 48-28.  JV Lady Bucs won 41-38. High scorer was Crystal Norton with 21 points.

All of this week, everyone at HHS will have the opportunity to vote for a faculty member to dress up as an elf before we get out for the holiday break. Each vote cost $1. Voting takes place in the Buc Den during all lunch shifts and everyone can vote as many times and as often as they like. RAK club encourages participation, whether you are voting on your favorite HHS teacher or using this as an opportunity for revenge. At yesterday’s count, it looks like Coach Brotherton, Mr. McMillian, Coach O'Nishea, and Coach Smith are all fighting over that elf costume.  Make sure you cast your vote today and tomorrow in the Buc Den!

There will be no activity period during the month of December.

Come during your lunch shift to have some cookies and milk and play Christmas Bingo with Mrs. Claus while learning a little about our holiday man in red. In addition to hanging out with Mrs. Claus, help her gather mittens for kids in need in our Haughton community.  The library will have a Mitten Tree set up! Hang your mittens on the Mitten Tree and give back to our community at any time between now and the end of the day Thursday, December 13th.  Mittens will go to help children at Platt Elementary during winter. Track tryouts for boys and girls will be this Wednesday after school at the track.  Please sign up in the girl's gym with Coach Wilkerson or in E-15 with Coach Haley. Bring clothes and have a ride by 3:45.

JROTC attended the Walter B. Jacob Orienteering Meet this past Saturday at which time 5 out of 11 orienteers won medals. Makenzi Williamson and Tobey Ferguson placed 1st; Hannah Morris and Holden Morgan placed 2nd; and James Garber placed 3rd. Congratulations Bucs in Blue!!

Drill team will meet today in the large JROTC classroom from 2:30 until 3:30. Color guard will meet tomorrow the same place and time

Congratulations to our Lady Bucs basketball team for winning the girls’ division of the Jack Clayton Invitational Tournament by beating Haynesville 51-25.  Tarralyn Sweeney was the high scorer with 21 points and Annie Chapple had 7 blocks. The Lady Bucs will travel to Northwood tomorrow night to play at 6 p.m.

After a long day at Parkway Saturday,  the Bucs walked away with a few medals in wrestling. 145lb 2nd place Nate Williams, 160lb 3rd place Ryker St. John, 170lb 3rd place Juan Flores, 182lb 2nd place Garrett Timm, and 195lb 3rd place Justin Nixon. Congratulations to our wrestling team.

Saturday, December 1 from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. our Haughton Talented Music students will be performing at the Haughton Hometown Market.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Our Lady Bucs soccer team and Ruston tied 1-1 in the opening game of the Bossier Tourney. Haughton’s goal was scored by Alyssa Taylor. Haughton is scheduled to play Evangel tonight at 8pm @ Tinsley.  Haughton is now 1-2-2 on the season.

Congratulations to our Lady Bucs basketball team.  They defeated North DeSoto last night 51-22 and will play in the championship game of the Jack Clayton tournament today at 5:30 p.m. here at HHS.  Tarralyn Sweeney was the high scorer with 15 points. Remember, if you’re in the Crew and you wear your Crew t-shirt to the basketball games, you get in for $1.  That’s a $6 discount from the regular admission price of $7.

HHS is excited to offer ACT Boot Camp on Saturday, December 1st from 9 to noon.  Whether you are trying to improve your overall score or a subscore, this day is for YOU!

Sign up is mandatory and limited to only 55 participants. To sign up, see Mrs. McKay in S112 either before school or at lunch.  You will need to pay $5 before Thursday, November 29th to be part of this program.

 

Congratulations to those students who won the Way2Go Wednesday drawing from Wednesday, November 14th.  Your prizes are with your 1st block teacher! A list of the winners is on the HHS website. Check and see if you are a winner.

The Holidays can be expense with gift purchases and holiday meals to pay for.  Your JROTC Bucs in Blue are selling raffle tickets for $50 gift cards for Brookshire's and Ivey's Lumber and  $10 Subway cards next Saturday and Sunday 10-4 at Brookshire's and 10-2 at Ivey's Lumber. Tickets are $2 each/3 for $5.  They will make great gifts!

Students:  If you check out to attend the playoff game, you need to find Mrs. Shaw at the game to sign the sheet which will mark you as excused from school.

In celebration of Aviation History Month, the Library will be hosting military personnel and Shreveport Regional Airport's Air Traffic Controllers to give you some information on aviation in their field.  Come hear live Air Traffic Controllers direct traffic in the air above you from all over the United States and see aerial maps of Haughton Town on display. As you peruse the displays, have yourself an airplane snack!

Are you an aspiring paper airplane maker?  Well, come compete with your fellow students in a paper airplane making contest!  Prizes will be awarded each lunch shift to the winners!

Come see what fun the Library has going on Thursday, November 15th, during your lunch shift!

Our last Way2Go Wednesday for the Fall Semester will be held today during all 4 lunch shifts.

In celebration of Aviation History Month, the Library will be hosting military personnel and Shreveport Regional Airport's Air Traffic Controllers to give you some information on aviation in their field.  Come hear live Air Traffic Controllers direct traffic in the air above you from all over the United States and see aerial maps of Haughton Town on display. As you peruse the displays, have yourself an airplane snack!

Are you an aspiring paper airplane maker?  Well, come compete with your fellow students in a paper airplane making contest!  Prizes will be awarded each lunch shift to the winners!

Pre-game football playoff tickets will be sold in the library today from 7:30 a.m until 2:40 p.m.  All tickets are $10.00.

The Bucs take on the Bulldogs from Fontainebleu High School tonight at 7 p.m. here at HHS.  We will have a pep rally today and the spirit flag will be up for grabs to the class who is showing the most spirit throughout the entire pep rally.  Student Council is also hosting a battle between the classes during the pep rally, so be sure and cheer for your classmates today and that will help your chances at winning the spirit flag, too!

Awesome Anchors for the Month will be drawn today.  Please fill out a nomination form for that teacher, staff member, custodian, or cafeteria worker who has been making a difference at HHS.  Nomination are due by the end of lunch on Monday.

Congratulations to Hannah Crowder!  She won a $1000 scholarship for completing her FAFSA!   Seniors, be sure to get your FAFSA taken care of and then complete the scholarship through Lela.  Instructions will be sent to your school email. Remember you must complete the FAFSA or complete the waiver in order to graduate.  

Beta Officers will have a meeting on Wednesday, November 7 at 7:10 in Lab 2.

Space Team will meet today after school in the small JROTC Classroom.

Drill team will meet today in the large JROTC classroom from 2:30 until 3:30. Color guard will meet on Thursday the same place and time.

Our Big Red Band competed in the Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands on Saturday.  They earned the rating of "1" in Band, Drum Major, and Percussion and a rating of "2" in Auxiliary.  Way to go Big Red!

The lady Bucs volleyball team played tough, but were defeated by a very good Sam Houston team in the first round of the LHSAA playoffs last night. The Lady Bucs would like to thank all who came to support them at matches this season. They finished the season with 21 wins, which is the most in program history in a season. 10 of those wins were a part of our 2nd district title in a row and first ever undefeated district title.

The Bucs Killian Hillinger competed in the Regional Cross Country Meet in Pineville yesterday finishing in 12th place with a big  personal record of 16:47. He earned the honor of All Regional Team and has qualified to compete at the 5A State Meet. Way to go, Killian!

This past Saturday The Big Red Buccaneer Band competed in the Sterlington High School Marching Contest. They earned a “1” in the Marching, Music, General Effect, and Percussion categories and a “2” in the Color Guard category. They placed 3rd overall. Congratulations to our Big Red Band!!

The Highsteppers competed at the State Fair dance and cheer competition Sunday. They received 1st place for kick, Pom, hip hop & small kick ensemble dances.  They also received overall dance grand champion. Congratulations Highsteppers!!

In response to the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena, angered parents and youth in communities across the country began wearing Red Ribbons as a symbol of their commitment to raise awareness of the killing and destruction caused by drugs in America. The first Red Ribbon week was in 1988. This Monday members of SADD will have pledge cards. Students will have an opportunity to pledge to travel through life drug free.

You can take the pledge and show your commitment by wearing your red H-Buc shirts!

Today is the last day SADD members will be taking orders for  BOO bags. BOO Bags are $1 each and will be delivered first block Oct 31. Part of the proceeds will be donated to support suicide prevention.

The freshmen football team defeated the Parkway Panthers Monday night 14-0. Joshua Sewell ran for the first touchdown, and Elton Bryant finished it off with a 2 point conversion. The second Bucs touchdown came on a 4th down 35 yard touchdown pass from Roman Tolbert to Hunter Tolbert. The entire defense played a great game. The final freshmen game will be next Monday at home vs Airline. Go Bucs.

The JV and Varsity volleyball teams defeated Northwood last night to complete district play with a perfect 10-0 record!

Bossier Parish will be holding it’s College and Career Night tonight  from 5:30-7:30 at the Bossier Civic Center. It is a come and go event for all Parish juniors and seniors.  Representatives from universities, colleges, businesses and the armed forces will be present.

The JV and Varsity volleyball teams defeated Caddo magnet last night to secure our 2nd straight district championship.

Teachers:  Due to the traffic congestion caused by the 18 wheeler wreck this morning, we will be holding tardies until 7:50 a.m.

JROTC attended Lake Claiborne Orienteering Competition this past Saturday at which time the following orienteers placed in accordance with their age and course category. James Garber and Joe Busby placed 1st on the white course; Eli Hickey placed 2nd on the white course; Tobey Ferguson placed 3rd on the white course; Norman Pritchard and Brandon Moll placed 1st on the yellow course; Alexis Martwick placed 1st on the orange course; Johnathan Houghes placed 2nd on the orange course, and Koehn Farrell placed 1st on the brown course. Congratulations to all orienteers. Way to go Bucs in Blue!

Drill team will practice today from 2:30 until 4:00 in the large JROTC classroom. Color guard will practice tomorrow the same place and time.

Our Fall blood drive is today.  First block teachers have a hard copy of the donor schedule in their mailboxes and an electronic copy shared with them.   All donors should hydrate well during the day. Donors should have eaten breakfast and should eat lunch too!!!!!.  Also, all donors will use the backside of their yellow hall passes to sign out of class to the blood drive and sign back in from the drive. Signing the back of their passes will ensure we don't waste the front space and penalize students for volunteering to donate blood.

Bossier Parish will be holding it’s College and Career Night on October 23 from 5:30-7:30 at the Bossier Civic Center.  It is a come and go event for all Parish juniors and seniors. Representatives from universities, colleges, businesses and the armed forces will be present.

There will be NO cheerleader practice today!!

We have a big district volleyball match at home tonight versus Caddo Magnet.  JV plays at 5:30 and varsity plays at 6:30. It’s also Senior Night and our Lady Bucs seniors will be presented after the JV match.  If we win tonight, we are the Division 2, District 1 champions for the second year in a row, so let’s pack the gym for this huge Lady Bucs volleyball game.  As always, all students get in free with your student ID.

Please donate to the HHS Homecoming Penny Drive today.  All proceeds from the penny drive go to help with the medical expenses for freshman Maddy Mouser who just had a lung transplant.  

Our Fall blood drive will be Monday.  First block teachers will have a copy of the donor schedule in their mail boxes and via email Monday morning.  All donors should hydrate well the day before and on Monday.  Donors should eat breakfast Monday morning regardless of when they donate!!

If they are donating in the afternoon, they should eat lunch too!!!!!.  Also, all donors will use their yellow hall passes to sign in and out of your classes to and from the blood drive.

The HHS Cyber Defense team will compete today at the beginning of 3rd block until 5:00PM.  Competitors should report to the library before going to lunch.

Attention Juniors:   If you are interested in being on Ring Staff, please pick up an application outside Mrs. Harlan's room (S108).  

Applications are due by Wednesday, October 24 and Ring Staff will be announced on Friday, October 26.  Late applications will not be accepted.

Ashlyn Gilmore has been honored as a member of the 2018-2019 LHSAA All-Academic Composite Girls' Volleyball team as well as The Shreveport Times Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 7.  Congratulations, Ashlyn!

The Lady Bucs volleyball team beat Huntington last night and improved their district record to 8-0.  Arielle Emmanuel had 23 aces and Mia McWilliams had 15. Ashlyn Gilmore had 7 kills and Tarralyn Sweeney had 5.  The Lady Bucs next action is Monday night at home vs. Caddo Magnet with JV playing at 5:30 and varsity playing at 6:30.

The ASVAB is an aptitude test for entrance to any military branch.  The testing date is November 1st at HHS. Sign ups are from 10/16 to 10/26. Representatives from the US National Guard and LSUS will be in the library today during all lunch shifts.

JROTC attended Natchitoches Central High School Drill Meet this past Saturday at which time the unarmed color guard commanded by Cadet Makenzi Williamson placed 3rd; the armed color guard commanded by Cadet Mason Allen placed 1st; the unarmed regulation drill inspection commanded by Cadet Hannah Morris placed 3rd; the physical fitness team commanded by Cadet Nathan Deliyannis placed 3rd; and, the marksmanship team commanded by Cadet Xander Wolf placed 1st. Congratulations to all. Way to go Bucs in Blue.

Drill team, color guard and saber teams will meet today in the large JROTC from 2:30 until 4:00, weather permitting.

Haley Davis, a senior member of the HHS choir, passed her second round auditions in Lafayette, La. during fall break and was selected to be a member of the Louisiana All-State Women's Choir. She will attend rehearsals in Baton Rouge, La. and will perform, in concert, on Friday, November 16 in Baton Rouge.  Way to go Haley!

Congratulations to the master color guard commanded by Makenzi Williamson, Hannah Morris, Collin Ramirez and Joshua Miller; and the challenge color guard commanded by Jeremiah Hadwin, Johnathan Houghes, Norman Pritchard and Maliki Howard. Drill team will practice today from 2:30 until 3:30 in the large classroom. Color guard will practice tomorrow the same time and place. Both teams will practice Thursday from 2:30 until 4:00.

Today is our Pink Out game and pep rally!  Thanks to the generosity of everyone who purchased a tshirt, Haughton High School raised $3200 for the Susan Komen foundation.  We will have a pep rally today and students if you want to be on KTAL Channel 6 tonight, be at the stadium between 6 and 6:20 p.m. because they will be here filming live from the student section.

Tomorrow is our Pink Out game and the Pink Out shirts are IN!  You may pick up yours during lunch shifts only outside Mrs. Shaw’s classroom H-10 upstairs in the H building.  The only pink shirts that are approved to wear on Friday for the Pink Out are Pink Out shirts from this year and previous years that have been sold at HHS.  We will also have a pep rally tomorrow during 4th block and the class who is showing the most spirit throughout the entire pep rally will win the spirit flag!!

The JV volleyball team defeated Caddo Magnet in 3 sets Tuesday night.

The varsity team improved to 4-0 in district play with their win over Caddo Magnet.

Standouts were:Arielle Emanuel who had 12 kills

Reanna  Crumpler had 3 aces, 3 kills, and 9 digs.

Mia McWilliams had 3 aces, 3 kills, and 9 assists.

Congratulations to Farrah Stanfield and Lauren Knight for being selected to be mentors with the Bossier City Commission For Women.

Congratulations to Grant Allen for being selected by the HHS faculty as the recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award.  Grant will compete for the regional DAR scholarship with the opportunity to compete nationally.

Awesome Anchors for the Month will be drawn on Monday.  Please fill out a nomination form for that teacher, staff member, custodian, or cafeteria worker who has been making a difference at HHS.  Nominations are due by the end of lunch on Monday.

All 3 lady Bucs teams defeated Benton yesterday. The freshman team victory completed an undefeated freshman season.

Congratulations to the freshman football team for beating Evangel 12-0.  Coleman Stafford got the scoring started with a 2 yard touchdown pass to Parker Lowrie.  Elton Bryant led the Bucs on the ground racking up 118 rushing yards. Tyson Kizzay had 3 catches for 96 yards. Hunter Tolbert intercepted a pass to set up the Bucs’ second scoring drive, which was punctuated by a 2 yard rushing touchdown by Coleman Stafford.

The Bucs Cross Country team opened the season up with the Choudrant Aggie invitational. Sophomore, Jadyn Hodge finished in the top 10 placing 8th in the girls race. The Boys placed 5th overall lead by Junior, Killian Hillinger who finished in the Top 10 placing 9th. Way to go Bucs !!!

Way 2 Go Wednesdays will be replacing Redemption Day starting this year.  

Way 2 Go Wednesdays will be taking place once a month and give you an opportunity to cash in those Buc Bucks you receive!

All your Buc Bucks (formerly Buc Stamps) you have received from your teachers since the beginning of the school can be used to purchase candy, chips, and can be put into a drawing to win various prizes.

Way 2 Go Wednesday will be taking place Wednesday, September 19th, and will be set up at the North Library Door (S-building side) during lunch shifts for you to cash in your Buc Bucks.

To enter the drawings, just stop by the library anytime before school, after school, between classes, or during your lunch shift to drop those Buc Bucks in the Red drawing box on the backpack table before 1 pm on Wednesday, September 19th!  An announcement of the drawing winners will be on the Thursday following Way 2 Go Wednesday!

Deadline to register for the PSAT is tomorrow.

The PSAT is scheduled for October 24th at HHS.  The PSAT is for JUNIORS who want to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.  Sophomores CAN take the test; however cannot qualify for this prestigious scholarship. The test is given only one time a year and the cost is only $16 cash.  Space is limited to 70 students. Spots are first come, first serve. $16 cash is due upon signing up and registration ends on 9/7 or until all 70 spots are filled.

The Cross Country team had their 3rd annual Bucs on the Run 5k this Saturday and would like to thank all that helped and participated in the event. Some results from the race in the 15yr old division Colton Allen took first and Kameron Burns 2nd for the boys. Jadyn Hodge also finished 1st in the 15yr old division for girls. Coach Drake Smith finished 1st & Mrs. Darby finished 2nd in the Adult age divisions. Killian Hillinger took 1st place overall for the 5k with a time of 18:36. Way to go Bucs.

We have volleyball matches at 4:00 (freshman) 5:00 (JV) and 6:00 (varsity) at home tonight vs. Many. Students get in free with id and student pass which you can pick up in Coach Ginn’s class or Mrs. St andre’s class.

The freshmen team defeated Minden yesterday 24-0.  Coleman Stafford led the Bucs offensively, throwing for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns, both caught by Joshua Sewell.  Parker Lowrie caught 5 Stafford passes as well. Elton Bryant scored the final touchdown for the Bucs on a 13 yard run.  

Defensively, the Bucs forced 3 turnovers.  Joshua Sewell and Jackson Voigt had interceptions and DJ Gladney had a fumble recovery.  

The FR play again next Tuesday at 5:00 at Benton.

The LA-801st Cadet Corps held their Fall Assumption of Command last night with Makenzi Williamson taking over the reigns of command for for the 160 cadets and passing out job and promotions to over 60 cadets.  Congrats to all our Bucs in Blue.

Freshmen bucs defeated Parkway 6-0 in FR jamboree last night.

Coleman Stafford ran for a 6 yd TD. Stafford completed Long passes to Parker Lowrie, Jackson Voigt, and Hunter Tolbert.

Zach Haley sealed the win with a sack. He also had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

We open the freshmen season with Minden next Monday at home at 5:00.

Tomorrow is the deadline to sign up for the Crew and be guaranteed a t shirt.  Pay your $20 to Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Weinreber, or Mrs. Duncan. A picture of the t shirt is on the HHS website.

Make sure you have your parking pass purchased and displayed by next Monday as Officer Almond and Officer Grooms will begin issuing  tickets then.

Speaking of parking…..all cars MUST be moved from inside the white lines of the student parking lot by 2:45 p.m. each day so the band can practice.  

Any students interested in wrestling need to plan on attending a meeting immediately after school in the field house this Friday.   The meeting should last no more than 30 minutes.

The Bucs Cross Country team will have their 3rd annual Bucs on the run 5k race Saturday Sept 1st @ Haughton High. See any of the XC athletes for sign ups or contact Coach Drake Smith (h-4).

It is time to sign up for RAK Club. A picture of this year's club t-shirt and  RAK club sign up sheets are on Ms. Meyer's door, room E-17 and must be completed and returned with the club fee no later than August 29. If you are interested in a club shirt you can pay for it when signing up.

Student Council is sponsoring Color Wars next Wednesday! Come represent your class and have fun! Wear white and bring two canned goods. More info to come on KHHS this Friday!

Our Red Out game to support the American Heart Association will be Friday, September 7.  The cheerleaders are selling Red Out shirts which are school approved for Friday wear. See any cheerleader or Mrs. Shaw to order yours and the deadline to order is Wednesday, August 29.

Color Guard will have tryouts and practice today in the large JROTC classroom from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Tomorrow is ACT 21 Domination day.  Students who scored a 21 or higher can wear their new shirt tomorrow with jeans. If you received a ticket for the shirt and have not come by to pick it up yet, bring a photo id to H1 to pick it up today at lunch!  Remember to follow the dress code rules for this honor.

Come to the stadium tonight for our 3rd annual Haughton Community Spirit Night.  Meet the football team, watch the spirit groups from all area schools perform, listen to some great music from the band and enjoy some great food from different food truck vendors  The event begins at 6 p.m. and is free of charge to students. Adult admission is $5.
